Everything is minimalist now. Zara claims to be minimalist. Or else, there are empty stores that claim to be minimalist. Minimalism, in a strict sense, doesn't mean empty, that wouldn't be minimal, it would be void. Nihilistic, rather. And why design if a space is empty? However, I conceive minimalism as the elimination of the superfluous. Of the unnecessary. That which doesn't add value to life. Value understood in functional, aesthetic, and personal terms. Some may find great value in certain objects. A lamp, a pendant, a painting that is beautiful. Minimalism, understood on a deeper level, beyond the easy term for good marketing, is actually a profoundly anti-capitalist movement. Instead of buying a new desk with every move, unable to face the impossible task of reassembling a cheaply made piece of furniture; instead of buying a lamp for every time one gets tired of seeing the same lamp everyone else has; instead of buying new clothes every season, with no intention of repairing or maintaining good fabrics; instead, minimalism advocates for timeless design. A Milá lamp that floods the grandfather's, son's, and grandson's room with warm light and good taste; a solid walnut wood table that can be repaired; Candiani denim pants or shoes worth resoling. I didn't like the idea of needing more clothes, with closets full of clothes we've been storing since my great-grandfather's time. Precisely, my problem needed a comprehensive minimalist response. I wanted to project an element that would force me to maintain an honest order. An order understood as a living thing — for a lived-in house, as opposed to the cluttered closets of a house that seeks an empty minimalism, like on some uninteresting interior design magazines. So, I contemplated the shape of Marcel Breuer's table and understood that its form had a perfect structure. The forces to support the weight were balanced. On the other hand, I remembered Virgil Abloh, with his conception of modifying designs by only 3%. Not ignoring the cultural design history. An open wardrobe where I only have the clothes I like, the ones I already have. The ones I've searched for in the closets at my parents home instead of the stores. The ones I've repaired if needed. Nihilista más bien. ¿Y para qué diseñar, si un espacio está vacío? Yo, sin embargo, concibo el minimalismo como la eliminación de lo superfluo. De lo innecesario. Aquello que no aporta valor a la vida. Valor comprendido en términos funcionales, estéticos y personales. Habrá quien encuentre mucho valor en determinados objetos. No me gustaba la idea de necesitar más ropa, con los armarios de casa llena de la ropa que hemos ido guardando desde la de mi bisabuelo. Precisamente mi problema necesitaba una respuesta de minimalismo comprehensivo. Quise, pues, proyectar un elemento que me obligase a mantener un orden honesto. Un orden comprendido como una cosa viva — para una casa vivida, frente a los armarios desordenados de una casa que busca un minimalismo vacío, como el de algunas revistas de interiorismo sin mucha gracia. Así pues, contemplé la forma de la mesa de Marcel Breuer y comprendí que su forma tenía una estructura perfecta. Las fuerzas para soportar el peso se equilibraban.Por otro lado recordé a Virgil Abloh con su concepción de modificar diseños tan solo en un 3%. De no ignorar el bagaje cultural de diseño. Our proposal was a&nbsp; interactive trophy that could be moved into two positions. On one position we aimed to highlight the identity of the Cercle Tecnològic by creating a negative space inside representing the brand's logo, the letter “C.”&nbsp;On the other position, it resembles a standing person, because we believe people should be the center-point of technology. We refer to the act of playing and creativity as what leads to innovation in technology. The corporative color red remains a guiding thread throughout the product, art direction, and editorial photographs. (ES) El Cercle Tecnològic de Catalunya nos encargó la creación de un trofeo para su programa de reconocimiento “Catalunya Impacta”. Nuestra propuesta, desarrollada por alumnos de segundo de diseño de producto de Elisava en un concurso interno, fue seleccionada, aunque no resultó ganadora. Nuestra propuesta fue un trofeo interactivo que podía moverse en dos posiciones. En una posición quisimos resaltar la identidad del Cercle Tecnològic, generando un espacio negativo en el interior que representa el logo de la marca, la letra “C”.&nbsp; En la otra posición, recuerda a una persona de pie, ya que entendemos que las personas deben ser el centro de la tecnología. Remitimos al acto de jugar y la creatividad como aquello que da lugar a la innovación en la tecnología. to approach design and the impact we designers have on the people who produce and consume them, Sofia and I ended up crossing paths. Glass is a material that appears fragile, but with the right hands becomes very durable. The Sofia spinning top requires a delicate touch and a sensitive eye, ultimately speaking to the emotional fragility that we all possess but is often overlooked from our perspective as designers. It is a call for a more human design approach, a reflection on our responsibility toward those beyond our designs. El vidrio es un material de apariencia frágil, pero que con las manos adecuadas se puede convertir en algo muy duradero. La peonza Sofía pide una mano y una mirada sensible.
